Cox Road Landfill Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessment

Client: Project Navigator representing the Cox Road Group

Location: Dayton, Liberty County, Texas

Summary: ENTRIX conducted a Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessment (SLERA) to assess potential risks from constituents in soil, sediment and surface water to ecological receptors at this former 83-acre landfill. The SLERA was conducted to assist the client with determining remedial actions necessary to fulfill compliance obligations with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The Cox Road Landfill, a former industrial waste facility and landfarm, was previously registered with the TCEQ as a state superfund site and is now under the Voluntary Cleanup Program. The former landfill was in operations from the late 1960s to the mid 1970’s and operated as an industrial waste facility and landfarm. As part of the SLERA, ENTRIX utilized site-specific soil, sediment and surface water data to assess the potential risk to receptors including birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish from exposure to constituents at the site. ENTRIX tailored the SLERA for the client by conducting a sensitivity analysis identifying areas of potential risk across the entire site and in specific areas to assist in the selection of remedial actions at the site.
